A recent Colorado River trip through the Grand Canyon renewed a deep connection to my favorite landscape. It had been two years since my last journey from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek, spanning 226 miles through the heart of the canyon.
I was accompanied by a dozen clients, two crew members, and geologist extraordinaire Wayne Ranney on this Grand Canyon Association Field Institute float trip chartered through Arizona Raft Adventures.
This was trip number twelve for me, and ten days proved just enough to reawaken my passion for the many sights and sounds that are part and parcel of life below the rim. Days were punctuated by waterfalls, ancient rock art, cartwheeling ravens, star-filled nights, thundering rapids, and the good-hearted bonding of newfound friends as they recounted the adventures of the day over a hot meal on a secluded beach.
Oh yes, and there were myriad photo opportunities. Though still culling my bounty, here is a shot taken at daybreak near Kanab Creek, midway through our voyage. View this photo larger by following this link: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/daybreak-on-the-colorado-mike-buchheit.html
