The elk rut is on in Grand Canyon National Park. That typically means love-struck titans (like the bull pictured here) roaming the forested South Rim in search of female companionship, and sparring with would-be competition.
I encountered this gent on a recent walk in my backyard in Grand Canyon Village. Be sure to give these amazing creatures plenty of space this time of year, as they become more aggressive until the mating season dies down in late October.
